A CONVENIENCE store in San Antonio was burglarized for the third time, losing about $1,000 worth of assorted items to thieves.
The burglary at the Flame Store happened between 3 and 3:30 a.m. yesterday and was discovered at 7:15 a.m. when the
owner arrived to open the store for business.
The owner had secured the store at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
The burglars stole a still undetermined amount of cash, mostly coins, phone cards, liquor and other items.
A cashier at the store said the burglars gained entry through a window which was forcibly opened by breaking the glass.
The cashier said it wasn’t the first time that the store was burglarized — the first incident happened in Dec. 2006, after Christmas when the burglars broke through the back door and stole cigarettes and other items.
The second happened in March this year. The burglars broke a window and gained entry.
The employee said they spent some $200 to fix the window after the last incident.
Now they will have to spend another $250 for the damaged glass, she said.
Both of the incidents were reported to the police but no one has been arrested yet, she added.
She believes that there is one group involved in all three incidents.
She said the last customers they had on Wednesday night were acting suspiciously and could be the ones responsible for the burglary.
These customers were teenagers, the cashier said.
She said they had no security or alarm and the surveillance camera failed to get an image of the burglars as it was dark at the time of the incident.
They don’t know if the burglars used a lighted candle or a lighter when they entered the store but the camera captured a streak of light moving around the store.
The latest incident was reported to the Department of Public Safety and the case is now under investigation.
